CONFERENCE @ DC 2025
PROGRAMS
RESOURCES
Artists in Residence (AiR) Program is to uplift and foster community between emerging Asian American (A/A) artists of all mediums.
AiR focuses on creating a close knit community of A/A artists through bi-monthly work and progress sharing meetings, guest mentors, craft workshops, and discussion workshops. AiR also focuses on uplifting selected artists by sharing their portfolios through ECAASU’s network, housing portfolios on ECAASU’s existing platforms, supporting artists in publishing opportunities including the ECAASU Journal, and providing a final exposition at ECAASU’s annual national conference. Past ECAASU national conferences have had a range of 500-1000 attendees, a valuable opportunity for widespread community support and collaboration.
Applications Close Date: September 28th, 2024
The East Coast Asian Americans Student Union (ECAASU) is the oldest and largest organization for Asian and Asian American (A/A) students. Founded in 1972, ECAASU brings together A/A students through political education and community-building in its several year-long programs (Artists in Residence, High School Program, Campus Summits, Journal, Community Events, and more!) and annual conference. This year’s conference will be hosted in Washington, D.C. in April 2025 and anticipates 500-1000 A/A student attendees.
“Art” in the context of AiR is all encompassing, and expands beyond visual art. This could include writing, film, performance, painting, music – there is no limitation for your application to be considered!
No! AiR is meant for emerging A/A artists, so the program actually has more to offer for rising talent than we do for established or professional artists.
Currently, no. We are looking into potential funding opportunities for resident stipends in the future, but AiR does not guarantee any monetary compensation.
However, all AiR cohort members do get their registration fee for ECAASU conference covered!
No! Outside of the costs you already incur from continuing your work, AiR should not impose any additional costs.
No, the ECAASU Journal is a separate program from ECAASU AiR, but members of the AiR cohort will receive support in submitting their work for publication in the ECAASU Journal if they are interested in publication opportunities.
For more information on the ECAASU journal, reach out to sharmila.dey@ecaasu.org and gordon.shi@ecaasu.org.
This program is meant to uplift you and the work you’re doing, while we hope you will create art during your residency, it is not required. The most important part is to contribute meaningfully to the AIR community and continue to uplift one another.
