What is The High School Program (HSP)?

The High School Program (HSP) is an initiative by the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU) to empower and educate high school students (grades 9-12) interested in Asian American (A/A) issues. This virtual program will provide the space for participants to grow in their knowledge of their personal identities, and to enact positive change in their communities. Participants will also engage with a community of Asian American students who are excited about understanding the Asian American experience and exploration of identity. Participants will become more engaged in social and political affairs and help create an inclusive community for other A/A-identifying students to learn more about themselves and their histories.

Goals of the Program?

Participants will reflect on their identities and grow as advocates for Asian American issues through engagement with the program’s four core themes.

WHAT SHOULD PARTICIPANTS EXPECT?

THEME ONE

IDENTITY & SELF

Delve into their personal and cultural identity and how they can apply their experiences in their community and society.

Understand the importance of intersectionality of their identities and how it relates to social and political contexts.

THEME TWO

POLITICAL ACTIVISM & COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

Learn about contemporary Asian American political activism, community organizing efforts, and ways to get involved.

THEME THREE

SOCIAL MOVEMENTS & HISTORY

Learn about historical Asian American social movements, the socio-political contexts of those movements and their contemporary legacies.

THEME FOUR

IDENTITY & SELF

Cultivate community with each other and the ECAASU National Board and Board of Directors.

Work on a project based on an issue of their choice and go through a reflection process of their project.

Take the knowledge from this program and experiences and apply it to their communities and other aspects of their lives.
